On the stunning coastline of southwest Turkey, the new Dalaman Marina will be located approximately ten miles southwest of the famous ancient port of Göcek. This region of Turkey is popular with visitors from western Europe who flock here during the summer months for the hot sunshine to enjoy the glorious beaches and historic landmarks. Among British visitors, Turkey is one of the top holiday destinations and aside from the superb scenery and cultural heritage, an important reason for Turkey`s popularity is its excellent currency exchange rate for the Euro.
The Dalaman marina will benefit from superb transport links, being directly next to Dalaman International Airport. British Airways have reportedly started a regular service to the airport which will bring more tourists to the area, on top of the large numbers of visitors who reside at the popular Spa Hotel Thermemaris Health & Beauty Resort, located just next to the marina. Before taking off to the beach, which has been awarded the blue flag rating, tourists will be pleased to find that the taxi ride from the airport to the nearest hotels averages at about 10 minutes of journey time. Most of the hotels nearby are luxury standard, with large, inviting swimming pools and elegantly furnished rooms. Many of the rooms also enjoy excellent views of the mountains and the coastline as well.
The economy of southern Turkey is dependent on the sailing industry, with towns such as Dalaman, Antalya, Bodrum and Marmaris benefiting from the high level of trade brought in from local yacht owners and companies operating ship cruises in the region. However, competition from other countries has meant the government has had to find new strategies to maintain a strong local economy.
The Dalaman Marina project was initiated by the Dogus Tourism Group, who specialise in developing new sites such as airports and marinas that eventually go into state ownership. The main purpose of the new marina (scheduled for construction from early summer of 2010) is to house 5 ocean liners and more than 600 new yachts, to accommodation the demands of the local tourist industry. The construction of the new marina is also a solution to increasing competition with the Greek island of Rhodes in the marine business. Indeed, many resorts like Dalaman are finding ways of opening up their tourism industry because tourism brings with it the potential for large businesses that cater to this type of industry to invest in the region.
It is expected that the Dalaman Marina will contribute positively to the overall aesthetic beauty of the local area, blending in with the stunning coastline and contributing to Dalaman`s popularity as a holiday location. It is also hoped that the construction of this marina will have strengthened the economy sufficiently to lead to a knock-on effect on properties in the area, which could see an increase in holiday bookings and rentals from tourists and business from all over the world. Boating cruises from Dalaman will be easier and more convenient due to major improvements in Dalaman`s transport network, with a new road linking the marina to the airport and the construction of a new tunnel as well.
